Hearthstone Battlegrounds has a lot of different kinds of minions, each of which has its own role. The wonderful dragons are one of these types, and they are a very powerful type of minion. Dragons can make some very strong teams, but some of the dragons that look strong actually need other dragons on their team and can’t be used well with, say, a team of minions and dragons.
As a result, the eight best dragon minions in the game will be ranked based on how much they depend on being on a team with only dragons. Also, if you’re new to Hearthstone Battlegrounds, check out our full Hearthstone Battlegrounds guide here before reading this article.
Evolving Chromawing
The Evolving Chromawing comes in eighth on this list. This is a tier-1 unit that depends a lot on dragons, but if you can get a lot of dragons on the board early, it can do quite well in the middle game.
Still, even though it’s strong in the early and middle game when paired with other dragons, this isn’t usually a unit you want on your end-game team because there are better dragons. This is why it’s not ranked higher.
Murozond
Murozond is a pretty unique dragon due to his Battlecry. This makes him a very useful card even when not in a dragon composition, since you can use him to steal any type of unit from the last player you played against.
Because of this ability, he has quite a bit of value on his own. But he is not a good dragon to have on a full dragon team because, just like the Evolving Chromawing, there are better dragons.
Red Whelp
Even though Red Whelp is a dragon, it is a great early-game unit. Even though it needs some help from other dragons to work, it still does a lot of work while your opponents are still trying to make their minions stronger. Getting some of these dragons on the board early is very important because their effects at the start of combat can win you a round by themselves.
Red Whelp isn’t usually a good unit to bring into the late game. But you can do it if you want to try to hit some of your opponent’s Divine Shield units. But, as you’ll see later, there is a better dragon unit that can do this job.
Drakonid Enforcer
Due to its need for Divine Shields, the Drakonid Enforcer is a pretty niche unit. It also works pretty well with dragons just because it is a dragon. It also works well with Nadina the Red, a tier-6 unit whose Deathrattle gives all dragons Divine Shield, but there are better dragons to have in a full dragon composition. Still, this unit’s ability to scale with your team’s Divine Shields can make it a great choice for a mixed minion team built around Divine Shields (or even a mech comp, if you’re feeling spicy).
Because it can be used in many different ways, it doesn’t need a dragon team to work. This gives it some value on its own, which is why it’s so high on the list. But, even though it is a very good carry for the middle game. It isn’t always the best choice for the end game when there are better options.
Razorgore, The Untamed
Razorgore is the best dragon for putting things on top of each other. This guy’s end-of-turn effect can add up to a huge number. It can grow even bigger if you have the Quest Reward that makes your end-of-turn effects happen twice.
He is an important part of almost every dragon team and scales very well late in the game. But he isn’t at the top because he is completely and totally reliant on a team of dragons. Without them, he doesn’t stack very well at all.
Atramedes
Atramedes is the dragon that is better at breaking Divine Shields than the Red Whelp. As a result of his strike effect, he may eliminate up to three Divine Shields in a single blow, and can even kill priority targets that are hiding behind Taunt minions. This is less likely later in the game though, as even high-priority targets will tend to have more than three or six health.
Because of this, Atramedes doesn’t have to be on a team with only dragons, since he has a lot of value on his own thanks to the damage he does to nearby enemies. But there are still a few dragons that are even better than this one….
Bronze Warden
The Bronze Warden is the only dragon that already has a Divine Shield and a Reborn built into it. As a result, this is one of two dragons you should try to get if you’re making a mixed group of minions. Since Divine Shields are the best ones to trade. Plus, it’s a tier-3 minion, so you can get it early in 8 Ball Pool game and start making it stronger right away.
Tarecgosa
Without a doubt, Tarecgosa is the best dragon pet in the game. Her passive, which lets her keep any buffs she gets in battle, is very useful. The fact that this effect doubled when she’s golden makes her a very powerful stacking machine, sometimes even better than Razorgore.
Even though she doesn’t come with a Divine Shield like Bronze Warden, she can easily get one from Amber Guardian or Selfless Hero. She doesn’t have to be part of a full dragon composition to be a carry. Overall, she has the most inherent value out of all the dragons because she can be used in many different ways and has a lot of power when stacked.
